District Champs

Next Match against Capac Wednesday  2/17/10 5:30 in Montrose

2/8/10

A new season is about to begin and the team focus is even greater than before. We will be heading to Chesaning Wednesday night attempting the first step as a team by winning team districts. It is imperative that all the boys are ready to go. For districts the state puts regulations on numbers 28 for team events and 14 for individual. We base all our availability on team points. This is the best way to make this decision. All wrestlers not making the official roster will still travel with the team. Adjustments may be made to fill all spots in the lineup as this is a team event. I hope to see you there and support the boys in their quest for a district championship.

Birch Run sent two teams to the mat Saturday and came away with a 1st and a 2nd place finish.

The team wrestling at Mt. Morris posted a 4-1 record while the team competing at MLS finished the day 5-0. The support was great. I appreciate all you do for this program and the young men that are in it. Be sure to tell everyone our final home dual is Wednesday against Freeland and Ithaca starting at 6 pm. Hope to see you there.

Thank You,
Bart Bennett

Our conference dual season is over and that means the end of the season is near. We finished in second with a 5-1 record. We have had great effort and support throughout the season. I am proud of the parent support our wrestles have. This weekend we again will be sending out two teams one to MLS and another to Mt. Morris. Both are 6 team tournaments and together we will be wrestling 10 duals or 140 matches! To date Birch Run Wrestlers have competed in over 700 matches! Our program is headed in the right direction and at a great pace. However, we need do some fund-raising to help support such large numbers. We need to get more singlets and other equipment.

On March 14 we have a great opportunity to do some fund-raising and support our wrestling program's growth! PFY wrestling has the privilege of hosting a Regional tournament. We are asking for your help to make this a smooth and memorable tournament for the youth of our community. We have enough members to fully support this tournament and allow the parents of the youth wrestlers to watch and coach all day! We will be having an informational meeting that parents need to make every effort to attend. It should only last 30-40 minutes. It will be held on Monday February 8, 2010 6:30 pm in the high school library.

Our fundraising goals are to be able to outfit everybody on our team with the same singlet, bag, and warm up. Next year we anticipate our numbers to grow again from 33 to approximately 38-40.

Just so everyone has an idea of how the team has grown over the years here are some numbers.

2006 -19
2007-20
2008-23
2009-33
2010????

This is why some extra fund-raising efforts are necessary.

Thank You,
Birch Run Wrestling Staff

Changes on the schedule if your wrestler has not notified you, this weekend there is a tournament we will be headed to with any wrestlers that did not compete at the Genesee County. It is at Valley Luthern High School. It starts at 9 and is usually finished by 1 or 2 O'Clock. I will send a final list out soon so you know if your child is wrestling. Also, the practices this week have changed. There will be no practice Thursday and Friday's practice will be at 9 am.

Thank You,
Bart Bennett

A big thank you to everyone for the support and help throughout the week and tournament day. The food was wonderful just like every week. The boys looked great. We are improving tremendously and we got a glimpse of what we can do with some extra hustle. I want to thank some of our volunteers that may not get noticed but are a huge help. Pete Howlett did a great job with JV wrestlers this weekend. Adam Grim, helped the tournament tremendously. Jimmy Fulger, and Russ Grim also a huge help. Last and certainly not least Cara Fent, Haley Hadaway, and Alicyn Haley for keeping stats, they do a wonderful job and will provide accurate stats for the boys. If you get a chance to express your appreciation to these volunteers it would go a long way. Without them our job is much more difficult. Keep up the good work. Thanks again!

Sincerely,

The Birch Run Wrestling Coaching Staff

P.S. Exams are coming up, please help with the studying and making sure the boys keep up on their grades. We will begin to replace lifting with study hall this week. Also no school Monday they can use this as a great opportunity to study.

Thank you for all the support again this weekend. The boys are improving, as much as I would like to see us do better we must keep it in perspective, the season is young and so are we. Most of our line is in its first or second go round in a varsity lineup. We have now wrestled 8 of 16 dates on our schedule. As a team we have compiled a record of 15-3 and  have two 3rd place finishes and 1 runner-up. Congrats to this weekends champions

We coming off another good weekend of wrestling. Our Gold team finished 3rd in Linden, I do not think we wrestled to our full potential but we can fix the mistakes and continue to improve. The Blue team finished 3rd also competing in Millington. A third place finish even with a void in the line up is encouraging and shows determination.

Bullock Creek on Wednesday is a 5 O'Clock Start time the bus will be leaving at 3:30 come watch us take on the

#4 team in the state.

Thanks again for all your support!
